Grape Days of Summer - August 2 and August 3, 2014

Experience collaborative open-house style wine tours hosted by the Placer County Vintners Association and the Placer County Wine Trail member wineries. Meet winemakers, wine grape growers and other wine enthusiasts while tasting award-winning artisan wines in the down-to-earth atmosphere of the Sierra Foothills.

Celebrate PlacerGROWN— local wine, local food, local agriculture! Take a self-guided tour of up to 19 wineries, taste foothill wines and enjoy a unique and educational experience at each stop on the Placer County Wine Trail.

PARTICIPATING WINERIES: Bear River Winery, Cante ao Vinho, Casque, Ciotti, Davis Dean, Dono dal Cielo, Fawnridge, Green Family, Lone Buffalo, Mt. Vernon, Pescatore, PaZa, Popie, River Rock Ranch, Rock Hill Winery, Secret Ravine, Vina Castellano and Wise Villa.


Bear River Winery: We'll be releasing our 2013 Barbera Rosé. Come sample our bronze medal Late Harvest Barbera. Take your free wine balance sensory triangle, aroma wheel and mouth feel wheel on your journey. Talk with winemakers and other winelovers. Food: Custom Artisan Chocolates by Raffiné (Newcastle) infused with reductions from two Bear River wines plus a mix of assorted premium single serving ice cream bars. Have two since who's counting?
Cante Ao Vinho: Taste your way through Europe (Portugual -Tinta Cao & Trouiga Nacional, Spain- Garnacha Rose & Tempranillo Graciano blend, France- Le Rouge Fonce Bordeaux blend, Petite Sirah, Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon, Italy- Nebbiolo & Sangiovese). Live music from Gordon Rusaw. Mary from Cololea Olive Oils, Kim with her great Pesto's and Lisa with Gourmet Toffee but most of all we are all serving up some fun. Food: Mediterranean Salad with Cheeses,Olives and Fire Roasted Bread from Randy Peters Catering paired with a special prerelease tasting of our 2012 Sangiovese.
Casque: will be celebrating Fresh. Seasonal. Local. The Nursery will be providing garden tours and we welcome Colwell Ranch Olive Oil back to the patio for local olive oil, vinegar and honey tasting. For our tasting guests we have have summer whites on sale! Food: Flower Farm Cafe to provide small bites that include tomatoes and herbs from the garden.
Davis Dean Cellars: Live music from Spanish guitar duo Festivalive Food: Aram Sandwiches.
Dono dal Cielo will be featuring live music all weekend and amobile photo booth by www.ourdiylove.com . On Saturday, music from Two Barrels Shy 1-4pm and on Sunday Doubleshots from 1-4pm. Owner Karen McGillivray will be giving tours at 2:00pm of the vineyard focusing on grafting Viognier to Chardonnay vines. Susan Stecz with Silpada Jewelry will also be present. Food: The Chef’s Table from Rocklin will be serving a Bay Shrimp Ceviche Lettuce Wrap which pairs wonderfully with our Chardonnay. The Chef’s Table will also be selling a BBQ plate for the hungrier guest.
Fawnridge: New release of Ruby Dessert Wine. Barrel sampling with a discussion of the differing flavors various oak barrel choices add to wine. Food: pulled pork sliders w/slaw
Lone Buffalo: Taste new releases of 2013 Viognier and 2012 Zinfandel. Enjoy a Vertical Viognier Vibration—a sensory tasting experience comparing different vintages of this favorite foothill white varietal. Food: Back by popular demand - Bison sliders provided by Gourmet Garage.
Mt. Vernon: Interpretation of labels, Live music, Wines on Sale. Food and wine pairing (tbd).
PaZa: Live Music. Food: provided by Bella Familia Wood Fired Pizza.
Pescatore: will be helping identify wine aromas by combining visual and olfactory senses using a Wine Aroma Matrix. Food: Tacos and Black Beans
Popie and Ciotti: Popie will provide an Aroma Evaluation Session at scheduled times (tbd) throughout the day. Come see if you can pick out the various fruit and spice aromas in our Barbera Reserve. Food: an assortment of sweets to pair with everything from a Dry Rose to a full-bodied Red and Port Styled Dessert Wines.
River Rock Ranch will pour 2013 harvested Barbera, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Food: BBQ hot dogs with chips and fresh fruit from our trees.
Rock Hill: Barrel tasting, cellar and facility tours. Live Music — Sat: five piece band 1-5pm; Sun: The Virginia Lights Band 12:30-4:30. Food: BBQ Pork and Tri-Tip Sandwiches.
Secret Ravine will have barrel sampling and family members will be available to pour, answer questions and provide a quick tour of our facility. Food: meatballs and homemade Sicilian bread prepared by La Fornaretta Restaurant in Newcastle.
Vina Castellano: Sun, Dirt and Water...Does Terroir make a difference? Taste Tempranillo from different sources, to demonstrate. Food: cool off w/shaved ice and chocolate treats.
Wise Villa: will be offering a special tasting lineup of 5 award-winning wines and will also have winery, barrel and cellar tours. Food: Grilled Tri-Tip Crostinis with caramelized onions

Bonitata Boutique Wine: Not Participating. But they will be open from 11am-6pm honoring Grape Days patrons for tasting. No Food.
Rancho Roble: Closed - Not Participating.
